Renewable Energy Systems

With the earth's resources being depleted at a greater rate year on year, the population as a whole should endeavour to use renewable energy resources we naturally have. Sunlight, Wave power and Wind power are all renewable energy resources that are currently being used by both domestic and commercial developments.

Solar panel technology, also know as Photovoltaic panels, capture the suns energy allowing the generation of electricity on both sunny and cloudy days.

Solar Panels

Domestic Systems

Solar Panels generate electricity from the suns energy, however, they do not require direct sunlight and will still generate on a cloudy day.

The electricity solar panels create can be used to power your household appliances and lighting. Solar panels can cut an average household electricity bill by up to 75% and in addition you get paid by the Government feed in tariff (F.I.T.) scheme for the electricity you have generated.

You can install solar panel systems on any building with a roof or wall that faces within 90 degrees of south, as long as no other buildings or large trees overshadow it.

Commercial Scale Systems

Commercial solar systems can be a strategic investment over the long term for any business, both supplying a cheap and reliable source of electricity as well as introducing another income stream to your business with both F.I.T and Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) payments being paid.

The governments financial incentive to develop larger roof and ground level (ground mounted) solar systems is based on the ROCs scheme.

The scheme, introduced in 2002 require electricity suppliers to deliver an annual proportion of electricity from renewable sources, or pay a fine. ROCs are traded separately to the actual electricity itself and work as a bonus premium on top of the price paid for the unit. More information can be found on the Ofgen website.

What are the benefits?

The benefits include:

The reduction of electricity bills
The initial installation has to be been paid for, but after that, sunlight is free.

Cut your carbon footprint
Solar energy is a renewable source and therefore does not release any harmful carbon dioxide or indeed any other pollutants into the atmosphere.
A typical UK house could save up to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide pollution per year after the installation of a solar panel system.

Receive payments
If your solar panel system produces more electricity than you use, you can sell it back to the national grid through the governments Feed-in-tariff, this scheme will also pay you a smaller amount for the electricity you use yourself.
